[ARCHIVED] Vehicle Break-ins

Due to an increase in vehicle break-ins, we’d like to provide you with some preventative steps to help keep thieves from breaking into your vehicle. Whenever possible, don't leave valuables in your vehicle. If you need to have valuables in your car, place them out of sight BEFORE you reach your destination, because thieves may be waiting and watching you place them under a seat or in your trunk. Even bags containing nothing of value may attract thieves who have no idea what’s inside your bags, and who might break your vehicle’s windows to obtain potential valuables. Be sure to lock your vehicle’s doors, and don’t leave the windows open. Don’t leave charging cables or GPS suction cups in plain sight, because these alert thieves that you might have portable electronics in your vehicle. If you see something or someone suspicious, call 911. The Brighton Police have a Police Blotter web page, where you can read about recent vehicle break-ins and other incidents reported to the Brighton Police.
